Sheryl takes workshops as often as she can, exploring Pilates, as it relates to movement, anatomy, and function. Sheryl has studied extensively with Cara Reeser, and has had the great opportunity to study, with another protégé of Kathy Grant, Blossom Crawford. She has taken workshops with other world-renowned teachers including, Amy Alpers, Mary Bowen, Siri Dharma Galiano, Rebecca Leone and more. Along with Pilates Sheryl also teaches Redcord® Active and is a Certified- Redcord® Active Specialist. You can see the list of the workshops she's attended here.
In 2013, Sheryl completed the Kathy Grant Heritage Training, a 10-month post-graduate program for Pilates professionals taught by Cara Reeser. This program offers a unique opportunity for extensive training in the Kathy Grant work in The Pilates Method through the lens and experience of her long-time student and mentee, Cara Reeser.
Sheryl is passionate about teaching and Pilates. Following the words of wisdom of Pilates elder Kathy Grant that “one size does not fit all” and staying true to the ideas of Joseph Pilates. Sheryl empowers her clients to succeed by tailoring to the individual body in front of her, focusing on alignment, movement, mindfulness, control and breath. She teaches with an integrated approach, looking at the body as a whole, finding strength from within radiating outward. Her clients leave feeling stronger, taller, better coordinated and oriented in space to tackle all that life throughs at them.
Sheryl holds a BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her fine arts background contributes to her keen eye, the ability to see the body, its lines, its balance and overall flow of movement. Sheryl has taught in NJ, PA, MA, FL, and had her own fully equipped, home studio in Stockton, NJ. Currently, Sheryl is living on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts and teaches at Vineyard Pilates. Along with Pilates and Redcord Sheryl enjoys fitness classes, long walks with an audio book and shellfishing.
"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness."
Sheryl has been a fitness enthusiast since the early 90's, everything from step classes, aerobics, Zumba, kickboxing, weight training, and Martial Arts, earning a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do in 2003. She started practicing Pilates in 2001 to help relieve back pain. She found pilates to be challenging for her body, mind, and her idea, of what "to be fit" was. This gave her the incentive to explore the mind body connection and make Pilates part of her life. Sheryl completed a 740-hour comprehensive Classical Pilates certification in 2007. After recurring episodes with her back, in 2009, Sheryl had back surgery, and she believes Pilates was instrumental in her “Return to Life”!
